Ask Joshua - I want to save my old rug!

Hi Joshua,

Recently, I moved into my new house, which is great, but my problem is the rug from my old house is a little small for the living room. But I love this rug so much and don’t want to give it up. It doesn’t really look that great in any other room either. Is there any way to make my rug work in the new place?

Every time you move, it can be a challenge to make pieces that once fit perfectly in your old home work in your new one. I’ve experienced this dilemma myself many times. For your situation - I do have a solution for you. Get a larger textured and neutral rug, like a jute rug, that is appropriately sized for your new living room and then lay your beloved rug on top of it. This double rug phenomenon can look really nice and you can continue to use your favorite rug! I used this inspirational photo as an example of two rugs together for your reference.
