Joshua's Top Picks - Housewarming Gift Ideas

Joshua's Top Picks - Housewarming Gift Ideas

We are in the midst of the holiday season! I often hear from people struggling to find good ideas for those that they care about; I have the same problem myself. I’ve noticed something a little different this year. 2020 has been crazy and due to the pandemic, I know a lot of people that have relocated. I was thinking that you can double down on some gift ideas that make thoughtful and beautiful housewarming gifts as well as gifts that work for those that seem to have everything already. I’ve personally selected these items and I hope you find inspiration to spread some cheer this holiday season and express to those that you care about, how much you love them.

Some of these ideas are generic enough that they will work for just about anyone. Other selections, like art, can be very subjective and I’d suggest that you know the person pretty well and have a sense of their style and taste before you start selecting art pieces to go on their walls!

Live plants

You can’t go wrong with live plants! Plants add life to a home, add some much needed color and most people love plants! Before you purchase, think about if your recipient has pets or toddlers and please make sure any plant you are thinking about to get for them is nontoxic. I personally purchased two plants from The Sill for my relatives in the past year and both love it! I highly recommend it as they have quite a selection of easy to care for plants in simply stylish pots that go with any décor. And they deliver!

Art or Framed Photo

Art adds color and personality to the space. Sometimes art can be a tough purchase since it’s such a personal and subjective thing. Good thing that Minted not only has an amazing selection of art, but they can print and frame photos as well. Framed photos can be a very thoughtful and meaningful gift for anyone. I personally use Minted often to select art for my e-design clients. My clients and I both are very pleased with the quality of print and frame. I highly recommend it.

Kitchen Supplies

Everybody always needs something for their kitchen; cutting boards, knives, gadgets, kitchen towels, etc. I am personally a big fan of West Elm because they sell so many unique pieces for the home and they match the styles I often work with. Recently, I realized that I’ve overlooked they also have really nice kitchen stuff that I think anyone would love for their kitchen. It’s definitely worth checking out.

Decorative Pillows

Who doesn’t like pillows? Many people love pillows for comfort, look, and functional purposes. If you know their style - you might want to check out this amazing home decoration online store, Lulu & Georgia, to shop for decorative pillows. I’ve used this vendor often for my clients and the feedback I’ve received has been glowing. Not only do they sell pillows, but they also carry a lot of beautiful decorative items for the home.

Home Décor Accessories

A great way to add some personality to your space is by having a variety of home décor accessories like candles, sculptures, vases, paperweights, decorative bowls, etc. They can be used for shelves, the coffee table, side tables, and mantle. In my experience, Anthropologie has a great selection of home décor accessories that create an eclectic look and something different than the “cookie cutter” accessories you see at many other stores.

Bath Accessories & Towels

Bath accessories or towels can be a perfect housewarming gift for young people that just purchased their first home or moved into their first place. I want to share with you my personal experience with Pottery Barn. I purchased bath accessories and towels from this brand many years ago and the towels are still looking great and create a timeless look for our bathroom despite moving many times over the past 10 years. I’ve had the same set of towels for more than 10 years and they still look new and plush, so this stuff is top quality! I highly recommend Pottery Barn when it comes to bath accessories and towels.

Gift Card

Sometimes a gift card is the safe bet you need to give them options to purchase anything they need for their new home. According to a survey I did - a lot of people actually prefer gift cards for local home improvement stores, home decoration stores, and discount stores because it helps them to save some money on purchases for their homes. Amazon sells a lot of gift card for their own website as well as other brands and vendors.
