Whoa! Is that a TV or art?!?

The television has been around for almost 100 years now! It was first invented in the 1920s but didn’t become popular until late 1940’s. The television has changed the way we live, our culture, society, and has become such a staple in our homes we have to decorate the spaces around it. In the last a couple decades, television have become big and then even bigger. It’s become a design eyesore for a space with a television dominating the room. There have been lots of tips and tricks for years about how to deal with that issue; often involving hiding the TV.

Around two years ago, Samsung introduced a brand new television design that was created to work seamlessly with nearly any overall room design called - The Frame. This new television design looks like a framed piece of art and makes it less obviously that it’s actually a TV. I have a several examples below of how it looks with various spaces. I’m actually obsessed with this new television design and the possibilities it creates!

Can you believe that is actually television? I love the way it blends with the other framed photos and sideboard without having to fight for attention like the typical bulky black screens that we see everywhere. I recall hearing someone once said this, “treat your television like a piece of art”. This is an excellent example of that.

In this example above I love the way this television is treated like art but doesn’t dominate the space much. It goes with the room flow and looks natural with everything. Samsung designed the TV so when you actually aren’t watching TV, it switches into “art” mode and shows a selected piece of art or photograph with lighting, contrast, and brightness levels designed to mimic a real piece of art. It lets you select any art or photo you like for your space. Depends on your mood, you can always change it at will. And when purchasing the TV you can customize the television by selecting any frame color or finishes that you like the best for your space.

When first released to the public years ago, I was so excited about the concept of The Frame television until Jeffry and I saw it in person at a local store. In truth, I was disappointed by the quality level of this television. We decided not to purchase it at that time and I would not have recommended it to my clients. Over time, the quality of The Frame has improved a lot and I’ve started to hear a lot of positive feedback about this television from my interior design and decorator colleagues. They have it for their own personal use at home or used it in their designs. They all are pleased with the results. I decided to give it a second chance by taking a closer look at it - I can see how much it improved since they released it two years ago.

From time to time, I’ve had some e-design client shared that with me that they sometimes have to fight with their spouses over television size or how it looks for their space. I personally dislike a huge TV because it is totally unnecessary and why would you want to ruin the room overall look? I feel that this Frame TV is a fantastic way to compromise so you would have a good TV size but don’t have to be worried about ruining the overall room look.

This is a gorgeous modern boho style living room designed by one of my interior designer friends, Audrey Crisp (Audrey Crisp Interiors). I love how she doesn’t allow the television to dominate the entire living room look. You can see how it work fabulously with everything else in this space. You can treat it like a piece of art.
