Ask Joshua - Window treatment for unusual bay windows

Hi Joshua,

I recently moved into my new house. I’m not sure how to dress up unusual configured bay windows. There’s 5 separate windows on 3 walls. I am at a loss how to make it work. I tried to find an inspiration photo on Pinterest for window treatment ideas but not having much luck. Can you please give some advice on how to dress up my window?

Thank you,

Rachel - Bridgeport, CT

Hi Rachel,

Thank you for the question on your bay window conundrum. I took a moment to review the pictures you provided. I think the bay window in your home is absolutely gorgeous, but I can understand your challenge on how to configure drapes for it…just don’t get confused by the extra windows and division between them. Hang four curtain panels as you normally would on a 3-sectioned bay window setup and don’t add panels in between the windows on the sides. The above picture illustrates the concept.

I also recommend installing the curtain rod at least 8 inches above the top of the windows. This frames the windows beautifully and makes them more grand and stylish.

I hope this helps you and as always, I’d love to see pictures of the finished project.

Good luck,

Joshua
