Walls of Inspiration: Showcasing E-Design Projects with Captivating Wallpapers

Over the past two years, I've had the privilege of collaborating with numerous e-design clients, crafting thoughtful designs for their spaces. In this blog post, I'm thrilled to shine a spotlight on a selection of e-design projects that beautifully incorporate wallpapers. It's been an enlightening journey, especially given the initial reservations some clients initially had about wallpapers, often haunted by memories of those dreadful and unsightly wallpapers from the 80s or earlier decades. Thankfully, today's wallpapers have evolved into expressions of style, sophistication, and charm. There’s also been advances in the tech aspect of wallpapers to make some higher quality peel and stick options that ease the installation and lessen the feeling of permanency of wallpaper that may turn off some clients. I'm excited to present a glimpse into some of these projects, showcasing how wallpapers have seamlessly transformed my clients' spaces into something truly extraordinary.

One of my most recent ventures took shape in the form of an eclectic-style dining room. Collaborating closely with a couple, I concocted a design scheme that would not only pay homage to their mural art-infused neighborhood but also embrace a touch of classic tradition. We went with a very neutral black and white color palette and cleverly melded existing pieces, including the dining table, chairs, and hutch, with new additions like a bespoke built-in display cabinet, tasteful window treatments, a captivating mirror, as well as an assortment of accessories and art. Elevating the ambiance further, we introduced a whimsically dramatic wallpaper - an element that not only commands attention but also fuels engaging conversations.

Another fascinating project I had the pleasure of undertaking was a mid-century modern den, working closely with an enthusiastic client. To infuse this space with a unique blend of sophistication and playfulness, I put together a daring and vibrant design scheme for the client that was willing to do something a bit unusual. Utilizing darker hues for the walls, I aimed to strike a balance between style and elegance. One of the standout features is the graphic wallpaper adorning the trayed ceiling - a captivating abstract design featuring sleek black and white lines, injecting pattern into the room's ambiance. The result is an atmosphere that exudes both modern flair and timeless charm.

Here we have a mid-century modern living room transformed by the magic of colors and patterns. Working with clients who share my excitement for vibrant expressions is one of my favorite aspects of interior design; painting a unique picture of personality and flair. This living room project was a whirlwind of creativity. I utilized a lot of bold colors though being on the cooler side, they aren’t overwhelming and we didn't let things get too wild. We balanced the bold with the calm, introducing those trusty neutral walls to keep everything cozy and inviting. The distinctive wallpaper is held in check by being utilized on smaller accent walls and broken up with the shelving. It's all about finding that sweet spot where imagination meets balance. These designs show that wallpapers are no longer a blast from the past. They're the secret ingredient to a fresh, vibrant space that doesn't shy away from telling your story. So, embrace the patterns, play with colors, and let your walls speak the language of you!

In the span of the last few years, I've witnessed a remarkable surge in the appeal of daring and unexpected powder room designs—ones that truly catch people off guard and ignite conversations. Allow me to illustrate this from my recent e-design endeavors: a Transitional style powder room. With my client, we formulated an exciting and audacious design concept aimed at leaving guests delightfully astonished. A half-wall of subway tiles gracefully embraced the room's entirety, with a boldly patterned wallpaper adorned the upper reaches. It’s a busy pattern for a small space, but you can get away with it in a powder room where you typically spend a short amount of time and it can have a dramatic impact and be quite fun to experiment and go a little wild in a space like this.

Enter the world of versatility with a transitional style flex room—a project I worked on last year as we embarked on a mission to craft a space that seamlessly accommodates a multitude of purposes; home office coexisting with a workout area, tranquil reading nook, a homework spot for the kids, and the option to transform into a haven for overnight guests. It was all about bringing harmony to diversity.

The vision was clear: neutral tones would form the foundation, creating a serene backdrop for this multifunctional space. Yet, we weren't satisfied with stopping there. To infuse the space with captivating depth, I wanted to introduce the idea of textures. The use of a fairly neutral and heavily textured grasscloth wallpaper added much needed dimension to the room and helped transform the flex room in a space of comfort.

Hollywood glam style bedroom designed by Joshua Jones, JJones Design Co.

Venturing into uncharted design territory, I found myself immersed in a project that's not in my usual repertoire: a captivating blend of Hollywood glam infused with the bold allure of Art Deco. Collaborating closely with a client driven by a desire for Hollywood's heyday, they wanted a powerful Art Deco influence, and a touch of whimsical charm.

We created with bedroom in Hollywood glam with elements of classical Art Deco. They also wanted to ensure there was a sense of sensuality in the space; this is a bedroom after all. The pièce de résistance was the accent wall adorned with a modern interpretation of an iconic Art Deco pattern. With a texture that appears tactile but defies touch, it became the heartbeat of the room, exuding confidence and personality.

To maintain equilibrium, we mixed a palette of different colors and textures. Each element was thoughtfully curated to strike that delicate balance, resulting in an overall composition that radiates elegance. This bedroom, born from an amalgamation of influences, serves as a testament to the transformative power of design. It tells a story of boldness and balance, of how patterns and colors can blend harmoniously to create a space that's both a feast for the eyes and a sanctuary for the soul.

Japandi style with European elements bedroom designed by Joshua Jones, JJones Design Co.

And now, we arrive at the final spotlighted e-design project—a fusion of Japandi style meets European influences in the bedroom. The journey began with a request from a couple: a desire for the serene Japandi aesthetic interwoven with the richness of European heritage. The prospect of weaving these two styles together ignited my creativity. After all, who doesn't love a challenge that invites innovation?

This venture was a departure from the norm, and that's exactly what made it exhilarating. The design embraces the overall design styling of Japandi's minimalism and adding in some elements of European classical opulence to really resonate with the couple’s background and style aspirations. The core of the room was Japandi furniture—a nod to simplicity and tranquility. To add depth and character, we introduced a subtle floral-patterned wallpaper that exuded elegance without overwhelming. The introduction of some vibrant hues found their place, complementing the Japandi essence while infusing a spark of energy.

So, there you have it—our journey through the diverse tapestry of seven featured e-design projects, each illuminated by the transformative power of wallpapers. I hope that these real-world design examples can provide some inspiration how wallpaper can really transform a space and become a standout element of the design. Whether they grace your walls, the backdrop, or even dance across the ceiling, wallpapers possess the uncanny ability to harmonize with any design style. From the understated elegance of solid hues to the tactile allure of textures, and from the audacious drama of bold patterns to the whimsy of funky motifs, wallpapers embrace every facet of your imagination.

Unlike the wallpapers of the past that might have felt too imposing, these contemporary compositions celebrate the beauty of balance. Options for wallpapers are now boundless and any color, pattern, or texture can be found that truly elevates your space into something special.
