Joshua’s Top Picks: Must-Have Decor for an Eclectic Southwest Style Home Office

From time to time, I find myself drawn to the charm of Adobe-style homes—those warm, earthy structures that beautifully reflect the heart of Southwest design. I’ve always appreciated the rustic textures, rich desert tones, and handcrafted patterns that define classic Southwest interiors. But over the years, I’ve noticed that many Adobe homes have started to feel a bit cookie-cutter—repeating the same elements in ways that make them bland rather than stand out.

That realization inspired me to think outside the box and reimagine what Southwest style can look like—especially in spaces like a home office, where creativity and personality matter most. For this edition of Joshua’s Top Picks, I’m sharing a curated collection of home office decor that blends classic desert design elements with an eclectic twist. Whether you’re updating a traditional Adobe home or simply love the warmth of Southwest style, these bold, unique pieces will help you create a workspace that feels inspired, personal, and anything but ordinary.

Eclectic Southwest home office with grasscloth wallpaper, corner Adobe fireplace, rustic wood ceiling beams, terracotta floors, textured wood desk, and warm-toned reading nook.

Eclectic Southwest-style home office designed by virtual interior designer Joshua Jones of JJones Design Co., featuring stacked layers grasscloth wallpaper, an Adobe-style corner fireplace, and textured wood furniture.

I’ve developed a fresh take on Southwest interior design that brings an eclectic edge to the home office—elevating the classic look with modern personality and rich texture. See the photorealistic 3D rendering above? That’s a home office I designed to showcase one of my original pattern designs: a stacked layers motif printed on grasscloth wallpaper. While this space highlights my pattern work, it also serves as a “shop the look” inspiration for anyone wanting to create a unique and elevated Southwest-style office.

For this design, I wanted to introduce texture in a subtle yet impactful way. The grasscloth wallpaper wraps both walls that meet at the iconic Adobe-style corner fireplace, allowing the fireplace to stand out as a sculptural focal point while adding natural warmth to the room. The space still pays homage to traditional Adobe interiors with rustic wood ceiling beams, neutral plastered walls, and terracotta tile flooring—while the eclectic elements give it a refreshed, one-of-a-kind look.

When it came to furniture selection, I chose textured wood pieces that bring warmth and personality to the space while maintaining the functionality essential for a productive home office. Storage and workspace were top priorities, so the desk and credenza offer both practicality and style, blending seamlessly into the eclectic Southwest aesthetic.

Depending on the size of your home office—especially if you’re working with a space that doubles as a bedroom—I recommend carving out a cozy reading nook if you have the room. A comfortable armchair paired with a floor lamp, a small side table, and a pouf creates the perfect spot for quiet, uninterrupted time away from the daily buzz of home life. It’s especially ideal in a room where you can shut the door, unwind, and reset your focus.

Creating a home office that feels both creative and personal is more than just a luxury—it’s essential to staying motivated, focused, and inspired throughout your workday. A unique environment like this Eclectic Southwest design goes far beyond the standard plain-and-basic setup. It helps you feel energized and connected to your space, which ultimately leads to better productivity and a stronger sense of well-being.

If you're looking to refresh your home office but want a different style direction, I offer virtual interior design services tailored to your taste, space, and lifestyle.
