Teen Lounge

Time to time, I hear from my client that their teens or young adult kids want a space of their own to hang out with friends or a quiet place to be that might be outside their bedroom. I came up with this teen lounge design inspired by a California beach house vibe and calming tones. I envision this space to be a fun place to hang out that is just a bit sophisticated while having a strong youthful vibe. The space is defined with white shiplap on the walls and ceiling, creating an open and airy space that’s homey and comfortable.

An ideal room design should have some pieces that can be great conversation starters. In this room, we’ve incorporated a vertically resting surfboard with a strong tribal graphic design that stands as a piece of art for the space.

Extra accent chairs could be added to the space easily if needed for a larger gathering and the pouf is a comfortable foot rest or versatile and mobile extra seating.

I included a trunk as the coffee table to address storage needs such as blankets or board games. The sectional is lower than standard height which is a great way to lounge and chill. It can be mixed with pillows with different textures and colors to make it cozy and inviting. I’ve filled some of the “dead space” in the room by adding two large floor vases and plants as shown above to make the room overall look lively and complete. The floor vases, though substantial, are an openwork rattan weave, so it still allow light and air to pass through and don’t seem blocky or obtrusive. While many of plants in the shopping list are faux, I always encourage the use of live plants if your lighting and living conditions allow it.
