The holidays are such a wondrous time! I'm excited to share with you one of my recent interior design projects. Some of you that have been following us already know that my other half, Jeffry Kahle, is the Executive Pastry Chef for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in San Francisco since last September. Recently, he was approached by the upper hotel management about opening a popup shop that would feature some holiday sweets for the hotel guests to purchase; a completely new concept for the hotel. Of course, Jeffry needed our help to design a holiday popup store to match his vision. The pop-up store concept would be a Winter Wonderland themed that would work with the Ritz-Carlton's holiday tradition of holding Teddy Bear Tea events for children and their families.

This popup store space is a tiny space that used to be a small theater space for the hotel guests' kids to watch movies, but decided to repurpose it as the popup shop. You can see before and after shots of the remodel below.

While I was designing this popup store, I selected the wallpaper and paint color that would be eye-catching for the guests that walk by the store as they use the main guest elevators stationed in front of the shop doors. This space has only one lighting source so I selected a snowflake-like chandelier that would give the winter wonderland vibe but also brighten up space up. During the construction, we learned that the original chandelier I selected for this store suddenly went out of stock. So we were on the hunt for a replacement yet still staying true to the store design. While we were on the hunt for the chandelier replacement, I learned that the ceiling can only handle up to 15 pounds which was another challenge for us. Thankfully, the Ritz-Carlton's amazing Engineering department came through and found a perfect chandelier that weighs less than 15lbs and stays true to the store design. While we were in process to set up the store after the wallpaper got installed and painted the accent wall - we learned that the jewelry cases loaned by the jewelry designer Wellendorf ended up slightly different than what it was shown on the design below but we are pleased with how it turned out; it's still balanced while showcasing Jeffry's beautiful holiday sweets, including their "Lemon by the Bay" Meyer lemon and bay leaf tea cake, gingerbread cookies, house-made vanilla, chocolate, and pinot noir marshmallows, and jars of lemon curd. Sometimes, the original design has to be tweaked depending on sourcing original design elements or information gathered during the project.

It was fun looking at different vendors for the holiday decorations that would work fabulously with this store concept. I'm pleased with the way this project turned out. Jeffry has received a lot of wonderful feedback from the hotel guests with their experiences at this holiday popup store. If you're located in or planning to visit San Francisco soon, I highly recommend you stop by the Ritz-Carlton Hotel and check this store out and try Jeffry's sweets! The last day of this holiday popup store will be on Christmas Day.
