Get your home ready for the fall season!

This year has gone by in such a blur, it’s hard to believe today is September 1st already! Some of you may already know that autumn is my favorite season! I’m so over summer 2020 with having to suffer through poor air quality with smoke from the wildfires nearby in the Bay area. I’m ready for cooler weather and and the chance to wear warm clothes again!

It’s also a great time to start thinking about how you can style your home for autumn. It’s not difficult, or expensive, to add in some seasonal touches that make you feel warm and cozy. As you know I usually work with many different styles, but I tend to stay away from either country or farmhouse styles which is very common fall decor you see everywhere.

Simple is the name of the game here. You don’t need to over-decorate for autumn. The picture above is a perfect example of how to do it simple. Keep your existing home decor but add some colorful fall branches inside a vase. Those fall colors really pop, especially against this black and white theme, and still looking fabulous with everything together.

Another simple method is swap out some of your pillows (this trick is good for any time of year or holidays). Change a couple decorative pillows in your living room with fall colors; green, rust, orange, and brown. Please, don’t be kitschy by having pillows with autumnal quotes or graphics on them. I would prefer a solid or textured pillow for this.

I love pumpkins. Let me say it again, I LOVE pumpkins. For my home, I usually change some of the accessories in the room with a mix of textured sculptured pumpkins with real pumpkins or gourds. There are so many different styles of sculptural pumpkins in mediums of glass, metal, ceramic, paper, etc. You can easily find something that fits your style. Your dining table, console or sideboard, coffee table, or strategically staged on shelving are all great places. Mix in some small living plants with the pumpkins for color and contrast. There is always of course the front porch on which to stage those pumpkins you hunted down in the pumpkin patch. Staging those pumpkins with some lanterns around your front porch makes it more inviting.

I spent a little of my free time rounding up a few fall decoration ideas that caught my eye. They’re all uncomplicated and very budget friendly. Click the pictures below to be taken to the vendor. Happy shopping! :)
