Desert Breeze Dining Room

Over the past year, I’ve worked on some really amazing e-design projects that focus on Desert Rustic and Desert Breeze styles. The homes have been situated in the desert, but this style does work in homes that aren’t. One of the reasons I’ve enjoyed playing around with these styles is because they are very calming and refreshing, yet still work with some nice pops of color. I was inspired to created this Desert Breeze style dining room that has mostly neutral desert tones with greens and shades of orange.

The ideal Desert Breeze room should be light, airy, earthy, with inviting textures, some natural desert plants, and metal finishes. The design is shown here in these photorealistic 3D renderings that I had created special for this Shop the Look segment (Joshua’s Top Picks). I love 3D renderings because clients can get the best sense of how the pieces play with each other.

A lot of the e-design projects I’ve worked on in this style tend to have large open spaces and unusually large dining areas. You need to get creative to put that extra space to good use. Here I added in a reading nook with built-in shelves. It includes one of my recent favorite art finds; it’s a reproduction on canvas by artist Susan Stone called Emerald Print. It’s a large piece in bold greens and blues that contrast beautifully with all the natural desert neutrals in the space.

If you dig going a little nontraditional and opt for some bench seating at your dining table, I would recommend adding in a faux sheepskin rug across the bench. It adds a little comfort for sitting and makes the space for inviting. Mixing that bench with some metal frame and leather dining chairs keeps the space uncluttered, simple, casual, yet still refined.
