Ask Joshua - I'm at loss of how to decorate this awkward foyer space.

Hi Joshua,

I have an awkward entry into my home with a small foyer that opens directly to the living room. There’s not an actual wall anywhere except a kind of partial wall from the stairs as they are right next to the entry. I’d really like a functional space where I can put my keys, mail, and perhaps shoes, but still look stylish since it’s very visible from the rest of the house. I’m not sure what I should be looking for. Please help!

Hi Jenn,

This is a common problem in lots of homes or apartments that don’t have a well designed entryway. I’ve put together a mood board that illustrates a simple idea that will give you a nice clean and designer look, while giving you the functionality that you mentioned you need. A console table with a pair of drawers will hold keys, mail, and other odds and ends while the top can be styled and decorated beautifully. A couple of baskets below make a great place for shoes to keep them accessible but out of direct sight. The ottoman next to the table is handy as a place to sit while putting on your shoes.

I hope you like what I’ve put together. I’ve created a mood board that is shoppable in case these pieces will work for you.

Happy decorating! :)
