Ask Joshua - Best window treatments for tall windows?

Hi Joshua,

My husband and I have been debating about what window treatments would look good for the tall windows in our house. We’ve got 9 to 10 foot ceilings and windows from floor to ceiling with no space for curtain rods. We’d like some privacy and also block some sun when it’s hot in the summer. I like roman shades, but my husband thinks they’re too traditional. So, not really sure what would work, so asking for some help. I should also mention that we are both not very tall, so accessing really tall windows can be a pain.

Since your house is a contemporary style on the modern side, I’d recommend roller shades. It keeps it simple and modern looking for your home. There are some brands of roller shades that have remote controls so you don’t have to reach for them; making life a bit easier. I’ve included an example of a roller shade used with tall windows similar to your own to help you envision what it would look like.

Roller shades can come as either blackout or dimming help keep your home cool. I’d recommend you get in touch with a local window treatment specialist so they can stop by your house to measure your windows and provide you fabric swatches to select and they will install it for you.
