Is Article Furniture Worth It? An Interior Designer’s Experience and Favorite Finds
Article invited me to the Bellevue showroom’s grand opening. This is not a sponsored post, and all opinions and product selections are my own.
Around six years ago, one of my virtual interior design clients introduced me to Article furniture. They already owned several pieces they loved and wanted me to incorporate more into their home.
At the time, Article was an online-only furniture retailer, and I wasn’t familiar with the brand. I’ll be honest: I was hesitant. When I recommend furniture to clients, I want to feel confident about its quality and the customer service behind it. Without a showroom to visit, I couldn’t sit on the sofas, feel the upholstery, or take a closer look at how the pieces were made.
My client’s positive experience encouraged me to give Article a chance, so I respected their request and sourced pieces for their project. Over the years, more of my virtual clients began asking for Article furniture and sharing how much they enjoyed the pieces they owned. Their enthusiasm made me increasingly curious—and a little frustrated that I couldn’t experience the furniture in person myself.
That finally changed when Article opened a showroom in Bellevue, Washington, just across Lake Washington from my home in Seattle.

Article is a Vancouver, British Columbia–based furniture brand that launched online in 2013 and opened its first showroom in Vancouver in 2024. Its expansion into physical retail now includes Bellevue and San Francisco, among its first U.S. showroom locations. As a virtual interior designer, I’m excited to see more opportunities for clients to try furniture before making a purchase.
When an Article representative invited me to the Bellevue showroom’s grand opening, I was eager to go. After years of sourcing its furniture and hearing from clients, I could finally take a closer look for myself.
I arrived with an open mind, but I still had questions. Some of Article’s prices were lower than those of other brands I source, and I wanted to see how the furniture compared in person. Would the pieces feel as inviting as they looked online? How comfortable would the seating be? What would I notice about the materials and finishes?
The visit exceeded my expectations. From the quality and comfort of the pieces I tried to the variety of seating heights and styles, there was much more to appreciate in person. I left feeling more confident about recommending Article and excited to share what I had discovered with my clients.
So, is Article furniture worth it? Based on my experience sourcing it for virtual clients and exploring the Bellevue showroom, I see plenty of reasons to consider it. In this post, I’ll share what impressed me, photos from my visit, and links to the furniture and accessories that caught my eye.

Testing Article Sofas: Comfort, Seat Height, and My Favorite
Two Article representatives showed me around the Bellevue showroom and walked me through the different sofa collections. I had the chance to sit on the Sven, Timber, Ceni, Burrard, Rhett, Beta, and more—something I had wanted to do for years.
Are Article sofas comfortable? For me, several were, but comfort is personal. I prefer a medium-firm seat, while someone else might want a softer sofa they can sink into. As I moved through the showroom, I noticed a range of seating experiences, from firm and supportive to much softer and more relaxed. I appreciated having those choices rather than finding that every sofa felt similar.
One detail that stood out was the variety of seat heights across the collections. Seat height can be easy to overlook when shopping online, but it makes a difference when you sit down, rest your feet on the floor, and stand back up. Combined with seat depth and cushion firmness, it helps determine whether a sofa feels comfortable for your height and the way you like to sit.
After trying so many options, my personal favorite was the Rhett chaise sectional, pictured above. To me, it had the medium-firm feel I enjoy, a seat depth that felt right for my comfort, and a look I loved. It was a piece I could easily imagine using in a client’s home—or enjoying in my own.
What Does Contract Grade Mean?
I was also pleased to learn more about Article’s contract grade furniture selection, which includes sofas and sectionals. Article explains that its designated contract grade products undergo additional testing for commercial use. These are pieces intended to handle the demands of shared spaces, such as office reception areas and hotel lobbies, as well as residential settings.
For someone shopping for their home, that additional testing is a useful consideration when comparing furniture. It doesn’t guarantee a particular lifespan, but it offers more information about durability beyond how a sofa looks or feels during a showroom visit. If you’re sourcing for a commercial project, check the specific product’s designation and suitability for your space.
During my visit, the representatives shared that some customers have reported keeping their Article sofas in excellent condition for more than 10 years. That was encouraging to hear, although how long any sofa lasts will depend on the model, upholstery, care, and everyday use.
The sofas I tried felt sturdy and well made, and I was impressed by the upholstery options I saw and touched. The representatives also mentioned that more fabric and color options are in development. I left with a much better understanding of the differences between the collections—and a clearer idea of which sofas I would consider for different clients.

Article Rugs: A Closer Look at Texture, Pattern, and Color
While testing Article’s sofas, I kept finding myself looking down at the rugs. Throughout the Bellevue showroom, living room, dining room, and bedroom displays featured different rug designs, giving me a chance to see how they looked alongside the furniture.
What caught my attention most was the mix of textures and patterns. I enjoyed seeing the colors up close and feeling the rugs in person—details that can be difficult to judge from an online photo. Some had a chunky, pronounced weave, while others featured subtler textures or geometric patterns.
I’m always on the lookout for beautiful rugs for my virtual interior design clients, and I saw several options I could imagine incorporating into their homes. The selection offered possibilities for different aesthetics, whether a room needed a quiet foundation or a rug with more visual interest.
The rug sample display pictured above was especially helpful for comparing colors, patterns, and textures side by side. Seeing a sample up close and then looking at a rug in a furnished display gave me a better sense of how it could work within a complete room.
For me, the rugs were another reason the showroom visit was worthwhile. I arrived eager to try the sofas and left with more rug options to consider for future client projects, too.

Article Dining Furniture: A Closer Look at Banquette Seating
I love incorporating banquette seating into my virtual clients’ homes, so I was excited to find a couple of banquette setups at Article’s Bellevue showroom. Being able to sit down and try them gave me a much better sense of their comfort, proportions, and how I might use them in a design.
The banquettes I tried felt comfortable and sturdy, and I appreciated how practical the arrangements were. The Rosin banquette pictured above caught my eye paired with the round Hendrick pedestal dining table. The upholstered seating made the dining area feel inviting, while the wood frame added warmth and structure.
One feature I especially liked was the flexibility to combine shorter or longer benches with a corner piece. That gives you options for creating an arrangement that suits your space, whether you’re planning a breakfast nook or a larger dining area.
You’ll still want to coordinate the banquette’s dimensions with your table’s size, shape, and base so everyone has enough room to sit comfortably and move in and out. Having different seating configurations to work with makes that planning process more flexible.
If you’re considering a similar setup for your home, my banquette design guide offers more guidance on planning a dining nook that fits your space.

Article Beds and Nightstands: Mixing Styles for a More Personal Bedroom
Article’s bedroom furniture gave me plenty of ideas for future client projects. The bed designs offer possibilities for a range of interiors, from mid-century and Scandinavian to Japandi, modern organic, coastal, and contemporary. Whether you prefer the warmth of a wood frame or the softness of an upholstered headboard, there are different directions to explore.
The Cooper low-profile bed pictured above has a simple silhouette that lets the wood grain stand out. Seeing it styled with bedding, lighting, and nightstands helped me appreciate its proportions within a complete bedroom arrangement.
Article also sells headboards separately, which is useful if you want to refresh your bedroom while keeping your existing bed frame or platform. Just check the headboard’s dimensions and installation requirements to make sure it will work with your setup.
For bedrooms that need additional storage, I also love the look of the Cassie upholstered storage bed in smoked oak and taupe chenille. Storage beds are worth considering when you want to make better use of your space, especially in a bedroom where there isn’t much room for extra storage furniture.
When it comes to nightstands, I usually encourage my clients to mix their bedroom furniture rather than purchase an entire matching bedroom set. Matching pieces can look beautiful together, as the Cooper display shows, but I enjoy combining different shapes, finishes, and materials to give a bedroom more personality.
An upholstered bed might pair beautifully with wood nightstands, while a simple wood bed could work with bedside tables that introduce a contrasting texture or softer shape. The pieces don’t need to match exactly; I look for a connection in their proportions, colors, or design details.
Article has beautiful nightstand options to explore with that approach in mind. For me, the opportunity is to choose a bed you love, then build a thoughtful mix around it that feels personal to your home.

Article Side Tables and Decorative Pillows: Small Pieces With Personality
Some of my favorite discoveries at Article’s Bellevue showroom were the side tables. I loved the variety of shapes, finishes, and materials, from simple, understated designs to more playful, sculptural pieces. There were options I could imagine using across different design styles, depending on the feeling I wanted to create in a room.
A side table might be a small piece, but it can add plenty of personality. A rounded shape can soften an arrangement, a warm wood finish can make a corner feel inviting, and an unexpected silhouette can give a space a little more character. Several of the tables caught my eye as possibilities for a reading nook, sunroom, or living room.
When sourcing for my virtual clients, I like finding pieces that are both useful and interesting to look at. Beside a favorite chair, a side table gives you somewhere to set a book or drink while adding another layer to the design. I always consider its height and surface area alongside the seating so it feels comfortable to use.
The decorative pillows displayed on either side of the tables offered more opportunities to mix textures and patterns. Together, these smaller pieces were a reminder of how much the finishing touches can contribute to a room—and why I enjoy selecting them just as thoughtfully as the larger furniture.

Is Article Furniture Worth It? My Take After Visiting
After visiting Article’s Bellevue showroom, my answer is yes—Article is worth considering if you’re looking for thoughtfully designed furniture at an approachable price. The pieces I tried exceeded my expectations, particularly the balance of comfort, design, and how well made they felt.
Learning more about Article’s designated contract grade options gave me another useful consideration when sourcing for clients. I also appreciated the welcoming, knowledgeable representatives who took the time to show me around and answer my questions.
If you’re shopping online, I recommend reviewing material samples before deciding. Some wood finishes looked different in person than they did on my screen. Ask Article about wood samples for the pieces you’re considering so you can compare the tone with your existing furnishings in your own lighting. Natural wood grain and color can also vary from piece to piece.
Available upholstery swatches can help you assess fabric color and texture at home, too. Before ordering, check the current shipping estimate for your selected item and upholstery, especially if you’re working toward a project deadline.
I’m glad Article is expanding its showroom presence, and I hope future locations give more of my virtual clients the opportunity to experience the furniture in person. Photos and measurements are helpful, but sitting on a sofa or feeling a rug can answer questions that a screen simply cannot.
I left the showroom feeling more confident about recommending Article to my clients. The Rhett sectional was my personal favorite among the sofas I tried, and I came away with plenty of ideas for future projects.
