Bohemian Sunroom

Summer is here now, the perfect time to think about styling a sunroom into a cozy and fun place to hang out and have a conversation with your friends and family, enjoying the sunshine all the while. Usually, the sunrooms I see are in a traditional style and rarely else. It’s sad that people don’t make this space a design priority and often becomes underutilized because it’s not a great place to be. For summer 2019, I’m dreaming of a Bohemian sunroom and I want to share my latest Joshua’s Top Picks with you!

So, as the name implies, the ideal sunroom has a good number of windows to keep the space bright and let in all that beautiful sunshine. This makes the space great for houseplants needing plenty of direct sunlight in order to survive. I went with a fun and bold colors to add character to the design and worked around natural design elements with wood, woven textiles, and texture. I chose some funky items such as the “hand” accent chair. You’ve seen this chair before, but it’s been reinterpreted boho with its construction of natural wood carving and a small throw pillow; a great conversation starter when your guests enter the space. While the mood board only shows a single plant, this room design works with any number of plants. Hope you love all the elements I’ve curated for this Boho sunroom! Enjoy and happy shopping!

Target Finds - California Casual Style Accessories

Joshua's Top Picks - Target Finds copy.jpg

A couple days ago, Jeffry and I traveled across the border to Washington state to shop at one of our favorite American stores, Target, since we don’t have any here in Canada. We usually go there to get some personal items and other brands we can’t find in Canada, but I ALWAYS stop by the home decoration department because they usually change every 2-3 months with some updated looks.

I often like to check out what’s new and see or test items in person before I make any recommendations for my e-design clients. I saw a number of really great finds this particular trip and wanted to share them with you!

After I put it all together I realized that it all naturally coalesced into a really cool California Casual vibe. And being Target; it’s also budget friendly. These items are ideal for either a living room or den. I hope you love these items as much as I did when I saw them. Now if only Jeffry would let me buy them!

California Casual Bedroom

California Casual Bedroom copy.jpg

This California Casual bedroom design is inspired by a luxury resort. It’s calm and serene and appreciates a natural vibe. Most importantly, it helps you feel relaxed and able to sleep well.

This bedroom design I created for you works great with any lighter colored walls. I selected fun lounge chairs, ideal for some respite and a quiet conversation. The bed I selected is upholstered which makes it a bit softer and more comfortable. I mixed it with some colors to help balance out the neutrality of the color scheme. One of my design philosophies for bedroom design is that every person should feel like they’re on vacation in a luxury hotel room. It should be a place for you to escape the rigors of the day and recharge yourself.

California Casual Dining Room

California Casual Dining Room copy.jpg

This California Casual style dining room is inspired by a beautiful Malibu beach house I saw when I lived in southern California. It creates a fun energy with a stylish beach vibe look for your dining room. If you like, you can add more plants around the space to make it feel more lively and homey.

I selected modern boho style dining chairs to keep it light and simple but still create a chic look for the dining room. I feel that having an industrial style dining table and barstools help balance the look without going overboard with boho style. This dining room design is an interesting space for your family or guests to enjoy the meals together and still allow you to appreciate some unique selections such as sideboard, table lamps, chandelier, draperies, and rug. I decided to add some pops of colors in the draperies and rug to make this space feel more lively and fun.

California Casual Living Room

In the past year, I’ve enjoyed some project with my e-design clients that have requested a California Casual style for their homes. So many items have caught my eye and I wish I had an extra house to design in this style, but alas, that is not meant to be! I know some of you will love some of these pieces yourself, so here’s my personal selection of California Casual style just for you.

Just in the case you’re wondering what California Casual style is - it’s a mix of modern bohemian, modern coastal, and a bit of industrial styles with natural vibes. It’s a very popular style and one of my favorite to work with. If you need my help in transforming your home with this style, please reach out to me by going here.

This California Casual living room design that I put it together works great with lighter tones and colors on the walls and may work well with an accent wall. I found a really cool TV design, called The Frame by Samsung, which makes a TV look like wall art with different frame options and you choose any art or photo you like for your TV when it is not in use. Cool huh? It skillfully camouflages that modern necessity that is often an eyesore ina beautifully designed room into another piece of art the blends seamlessly into a design. And it can be a different piece of art depending on the day of the week or your mood! The mirror, art, and accessories which is shown on this board is meant for either a fireplace mantel or shelf.
